The Europeana Research Board (ERB) is considering how it can actively facilitate the use of Europeana for research. Join for an unconference session, where your voices are the voices we all hear, and collectively the session explores three key questions.
- How can a collection founded on aggregated metadata acquire and secure its research potential and value?
- What are the characteristics of research in the context of Europeana?
- What can ERB and Europeana do to inspire and support research using Europeana?
The discussion will be summarised in a ‘chartreuse paper’ and contribute to the development of the Europeana Research Board’s new strategic plan.

About me
Fiona is a Data Analyst in Programme and Business Development at Europeana, and currently works on ENUMERATE, and business analytics. She joined Europeana in 2018 to work in data aggregation after several years working across the cultural sector. Fiona has a special interest in 3D content, thanks to her background in Archaeology. She has a PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh which focused on Roman funerary archaeology, art and epigraphy. Fiona also worked in archaeological finds cataloguing and ancient glass studies, and was part of an international team who excavated the Dariali Fort in Georgia from 2013-2016.

Dr Seamus Ross has since 2009 been Professor in the Faculty of Information UofToronto and served as its Dean from 2009 through 2015. My interest in history has been fueled since I got more in touch with heritage. Cultural institutions have a wealth of information stored in archives. Their valuable collections are patiently waiting to be viewed. I am thrilled to contribute to making this available to the world.
I am involved with digitization, collections management systems, crowdsourcing and making collections accessible to the (global) public. Personally I have interest in the latest developments in regards to collections management; specifically Linked (Open) Data, IIIF, SPARQL and new registration standards like Records In Context.
I'm attending Europeana 2022 to meet like-minded people who want to leverage the latest technologies in collections management. I'd be happy to share thoughts on developments in regards to linking collections, data and sources.
