At this session you’ll learn about Collections of Ghent (CoGhent), which publishes the digitised collections of five cultural heritage institutions as Linked Open Data, encourages citizens to enrich the collections by adding their own heritage and stories, and stimulates the creative and technological reuse of cultural heritage data.
Cities are digitising their cultural collections, but often lack the tools to engage citizens. Data can get stuck within institutional silos or used on platforms that don’t reach out to new audiences because they lack an open infrastructure. Culture is essential to improve social cohesion and citizens’ sense of belonging, and CoGhent aims to contribute to the transition of cultural heritage institutions into places of community sense making.
In this talk, you’ll find out how the collections are prepared to be published as Linked Open Data (including rights clearance), what infrastructure is developed to interact with the end-users and how reuse of cultural heritage data is stimulated.
