Building digital collections: participatory enrichment of IIIF collections using Madoc

This workshop provides a practical introduction to the use of Madoc, an International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) enrichment and annotation platform. Attendees will be introduced to IIIF and Madoc via use cases developed at Ghent Centre for Digital Humanities, Belgium. Subsequently, they can explore Madoc’s functionalities using Europeana IIIF collections.

Madoc is an open-source tool for the display, enrichment and curation of IIIF-based objects, developed by Digirati. The primary building block for content enrichment in Madoc is IIIF, an open set of standards for sharing images and their metadata. Madoc’s pipeline is simple - IIIF goes in, enriched IIIF comes out - and facilitates enrichment of common data spaces, i.e. Europeana.
